HYY's events during autumn
Opening Carnival
At the Carnival, both new and old students of the University of Helsinki will get a chance to explore the diverse range of organisations operating under HYY.
Come find yourself a new hobby organisation, get to know your subject or faculty organisation and join a student nation – you can do all this in the same place during the same day! At the same time, you can also meet new friends and add to your overall badge collection.
Fresher Adventure
Finland’s biggest event for new students takes over the streets of Helsinki! For the adventure, gather your own team and go around checkpoints organised by HYY, student organisations, the university and partners to complete tasks. The best teams will be rewarded with great prizes!
HYY156
HYY’s birthday is coming up, and we want to celebrate the occasion with a party that makes Monaco pale in comparison! The Anniversary is an evening for our community and friends, and you are very welcome to join us to raise a toast to the 156-year-old HYY!
Student's Independence Day Torchlight Procession
A joint Independence Day parade of students from the Helsinki metropolitan area lights up the streets of Helsinki from Hietaniemi Cemetery to Senate Square on 6 December. Come and enjoy the community and traditions together with other students!
HYY's events during spring
May Day (Vappu)
The most important celebration for students is, of course, Vappu! Often Finnish students start celebrating early, but the drinks start at the latest at the crowning of the statue of Havis Amanda, or Manta, on 30 April at 18.00. The responsibility of the crowning rotates from one student union to the next, and in 2025 it will be the turn of Svenska Handelshögskolans Studentkår (SHS) to crown the statue.
For 1st of May, it’s worth continuing the celebrations with the May Day reception at Ullanlinnanmäki. Get into the spirit with the legendary May Day picnic, in which numerous student organisations and city residents join together.
Flora
May is a party month, with May Day closely followed by Flora’s Day. The event is a joint springtime celebration of HYY and the University of Helsinki – a culmination of spring that campuses take turns hosting.
