1 Event safety day on 4 May 2021!

We do not yet know what the autumn will bring in terms of the coronavirus or whether live events will be possible. What we do know is that event safety must be ensured in all circumstances. This is why we are inviting you to our event safety day where we will focus on event safety in the form of five themed training sessions. The event is open to everyone involved in organisational affairs or volunteering in HYY or ArtSU. See you there!

Event safety day is held at Zoom on Tuesday May 4th at clock 10am-2pm.

The workshops are organised unfortunately in Finnish.

Registration closes on 2 May at 11.59 pm: https://www.lyyti.fi/reg/tapahtumaturvallisuuspaiva/en

2 Remote May Day is approaching – here is how to take part!

The second-ever remote May Day. This is something that we are sure no one hoped for, but here we are. Thankfully, we know how to have fun even without bubbly drinks at Manta and picnics at Ullanlinnanmäki!

We have planned various activities for the entire week of May Day to help everyone get into the right mood. Together, we will get to participate in the first-ever remote beer pong tournament covering the entire University of Helsinki, select the all-time best overall badge and the most dazzling tutor, vote on May Day party songs and share some entertaining May Day stories.

3 The application period for project grants is on 22 March–25 April – LAST CALL

Do you, your friends or your organisation have a project in the works that needs some financial support to be realised? HYY’s project grant is the solution to this! We award project grants to organisations operating under us and to groups consisting of our members. We have a total of €6,000 to distribute as grants. These funds help you realise even your wilder and slightly more expensive ideas in a larger and higher-quality manner than normally possible! After the project, please send us a report on how your project went and how you spent the money! You can apply for a project grant by sending us a free-form application with a maximum length of two (2) A4 sheets. More detailed instructions and criteria for awarding the grants are available below.

You can apply for a project grant from 22 March onwards, and the deadline for applications is at 11.59 pm on 25 April. Please send your application and its attachments to jarjesto@hyy.fi.

4 Grants for innovative learning projects up for grabs – The call for applications has been extended until 13th May!

HYY allocates grants for new study projects organisedby students. The project can, for example, develop study methods, apply theory to practice or advance students’ professional competence. The grant cannot be allocated retroactively.

Throughout the years, grants for innovative learning projects have been given to projects such as a soap manufacturing workshop run by nutritional science students, a saddle course by students of veterinary medicine, workshop activities in an international environmental seminar and an art exhibition study group by humanists.

5 Advance payments of the operating grants paid

The advance payments of the operating grants have now been paid to organisations that have applied for the grants in time and submitted all the requested attachments through Tahlo. The size of the advance payment is around one third of the operating grant the organisation received last year. The rest of the grant will be paid once the Financial Committee has made its decision on this year’s organisational grants in its meeting at the end of May.

If your organisation has not received its advance payment in time, please make sure that you have sent us the final versions of all requested attachments and that your organisation’s account number in Tahlo is up to date. The operating grants are only paid after the organisation has submitted the final versions of all attachments required for the application to HYY.

6 Reminder to organisations on reserving sauna and meeting facilities for the autumn

The Services Office has received some enquiries about reserving HYY’s premises (excluding Alina Hall) for the autumn. Many seem to have been under the impression that reserving them for the autumn is somehow forbidden.

This is not the case. If your organisation already knows it will be hosting a meeting or some other event for which it needs to reserve any of HYY’s facilities, you are free to reserve the facilities in the usual manner through the Services Office (toimisto@hyy.fi).

Best regards,
The folk of the organisational sector

7 Take our wellbeing and equality survey!

Is student counselling at the University sufficient? Have you experienced discrimination or inappropriate behaviour?

HYY is conducting a survey on wellbeing and equality among its members. By responding to the survey, you will be producing important data that will help us in our advocacy work at the University and in developing our own operations.

We will be raffling off wireless headphones and an activity tracker among the respondents!

Please respond to the survey by 16 May: https://elomake.helsinki.fi/lomakkeet/111309/lomake.html?rinnakkaislomake=Wellbeingequality

8 Registration for Flora is now open!

This year, Flora brings springtime festivities directly to your home or picnic blanket at 5–7 pm on 12 May. The Flora broadcast will be a magnificent show created for us by both students and staff members. The broadcast will culminate in a performance by the brilliant singer Ilta, who is known from UMK, for instance.

And the best part is that all members of the University community can take part in this remote event. Students, University staff, alumni and UniCafe employees can all join the event – after all, Flora is the joint springtime celebration of our entire community.

You can sign up through this link: https://www.lyyti.fi/reg/flora2021/en

10 Apply for furniture purchasing grant!

HYY supports furniture purchases for interior decoration in organisational premises. The grant is intended for organisations which primarily operate on HYY’s premises and the grant is mainly directed to the purchasing of tables, chairs, cupboards with locks and other interior items. The aim is that the furniture would increase the cosiness of the organisational premises and the willingness of organisations to look after their premises even better.

When allocating the furniture grant, we pay attention to the following: the ecological aspect, sustainability and necessity of the purchase. The furniture grant is not supposed to cover the entire purchase price but organisations are also expected to participate in the financing of the purchase.

The grant can be applied all year round. You can apply for the grant with an informal application, which should include the following information:
– applying organisation/organisations
– applied furniture
– budget
– reasons for the purchase

Applications can be submitted by e-mail to jarjesto(at)hyy.fi or by mail to the Student Union of the University of Helsinki, PL 1099, 00101 HELSINKI. Organisations that receive the grant must provide copies of the receipts to the same address no later than within four months after the allocation of the grant.
