May Day 30 April–1 May 2024
The most important celebration for students is, of course, May Day! Students often begin their May Day celebrations early, but the bubbly drinks will definitely open at the Crowning of Manta, the Havis Amanda statue, at 6 pm on 30 April. Student unions take turns in charge of crowning the statue, and in 2024, it is ArtSu’s turn
The celebrations continue on 1 May at the reception of May Day at Ullanlinnanmäki. The legendary May Day picnic follows afterwards, with numerous student organisations and residents of the city participating together.
Flora 10 May 2024
May is a party month, with May Day closely followed by Flora’s Day. The event is a joint springtime celebration of HYY and the University of Helsinki – a culmination of spring that campuses take turns hosting.
Grand Sitsit 2024
The Grand Sitsit gets the students of the University of Helsinki together to eat, sing and enjoy the summer in the form of a shared dinner party. The programme of the event includes speeches and singalongs, with traditional academic dances taking over the square after the event itself. Student nations, various faculty, subject and hobby organisations are all involved! Next Grand Sitsit are planned to be held in the May of 2024.
