2.       Where would you like HYY to communicate to organisations?

Where can you find the most up-to-date information to support your organisation’s activities? Where would you like the information to be found?

HYY is mapping out the needs, habits and wishes regarding communication from organisational actors with a communication survey. The answers are given anonymously, and they are used to support the development of HYY’s communication. Answer by 12 Dec: https://link.webropolsurveys.com/S/1550F976F7085B91

3.       Take part in the Down a Degree campaign

The energy crisis brought on by Russia’s war of aggression will affect all of Finland this coming winter. We at HYY are taking a proactive approach to the preparations for the coming energy shortage by launching various energy-saving campaigns in our properties this autumn as part of the national Down a Degree campaign. These measures are necessary in order for us to avoid possible power cuts, for example, during the winter. Saving energy is also a climate deed

We are updating the information on organisations available on HYY’s website, as the information on many organisations is outdated. Please visit our website at https://hyy.fi/en/guides/hyys-organisations to ensure that your organisation is where it should be on the page. Please also check whether the link to your organisation’s website is correct. I also recommend that you go through all language versions, as there have been some discrepancies between the different language versions on HYY’s website. If you find anything that is incorrect or outdated, please send an email to HYY’s specialist in organisations at janne.salokoski@hyy.fi, and we will fix the errors!

7.       University community to make itself heard in the parliamentary election through campus debates

The Finnish parliamentary election is approaching, and it’s time to start planning the election debates to be held at the University. In the run-up to the previous parliamentary election, we successfully organised many events, and our aim now is to do even better.

We encourage all student organizations to also take part in organizing election debates together with the university staff. More detailed instructions are included here: https://hyy.fi/app/uploads/2022/11/en_yliopistolaisten-vaalitentit_ohjeet.docx

8.       How do we support the well-being of students and teachers in the midst of changes in university education?

During the coronavirus pandemic, concerns have been raised in the university community for the well-being of students, teaching and research staff and other staff. And concrete steps have been taken to support well-being in the community.

How will we support the well-being of the university community in the future? What types of factors affect an individual’s well-being? How is the well-being of staff developed? What about the students? How can the development of teaching and guidance affect the well-being of teachers and students? What is pedagogical well-being? What actions have been taken at the University of Helsinki in recent years to support well-being?

Hear experts’ views on the subject and participate in the debate on Tuesday 13th December from 9:15 to 10:30 p.m at Oppimistori, Viikki Campus, Info Centre (Viikinkaari 11).

The event can be monitored as a stream and will be recorded. The language of the event is Finnish. Participants can ask questions from the panelists in Swedish and English.

Panelists are:

  • Henna Asikainen, Pedagogical University Lecturer, Viikki Campus, The Centre for University Teaching and Learning (HYPE)
  • Nea Hakala, Board Member responsible for education policy, Student Union of the University of Helsinki (HYY)
  • Kimmo Mäki, Principal Lecturer (Higher education pedagogy), Haaga-Helia, expert in the joint Pedagogical Wellbeing project of ten universities and universities of applied sciences.
  • Anna Parpala, Pedagogical University Lecturer, The Centre for University Teaching and Learning (HYPE)
  • Opri Salminen, Development Manager, Human Resources, Personnel Development and Well-being at Work

Susanna Niinistö-Sivuranta, Director Of Development of the Teaching and Learning Services, will be the facilitator of the event.

Jokke Häsä, President of the Teachers´ Academy, and Mari Räsänen, Project Manager for the Development of Guidance and Student Wellbeing Project will also speak in the event.

The event is part of the celebration of teaching at the University of Helsinki during the academic year 2022-23.
