Our committees focus on brainstorming and developing activities for our Student Union’s different sectors. This translates to organising events, supporting organisations, conducting advocacy work related to educational policy and developing our University community, for instance. The committees are open to all our members, and you can join their activities at any point during the year.
The bilingualism committee works to make sure that HYY works for everyone, no matter their mother tongue. The committee works to bring Finnish and Swedish speaking students together, e.g. by arranging bilingual activities during HYY’s events. The committee is a great fit for someone who wants to further the rights of Swedish speaking students in all aspects of student life, and no effort is too small!
Is there an idealist within you? Is global responsibility and equality important to you? Come join the cooperation development committee! The committee is in charge of HYY’s cooperation development project, arranges events related to cooperation development, global education and maintains the discussion about the need for cooperation development. During our current Moçambique project we’re focusing on young people’s equality.
Do you have a passion for climate issues? Are you interested in interdisciplinary cooperation with other students who share the same interests as you? Come join us! The environmental committee organizes events and campaigns related to the environment, such as nature hikes, workforce excursions and food waste dinners. We promote sustainable values in our student community, raise awareness and urge people to act for the environment. Volunteering in a committee is also a great way to learn valuable work skills in a relaxed and supporting environment. Come save the world with us!
The international committee is run by and for international and internationally-minded students. Our priority is the creation of a thriving student community at the University of Helsinki by advocating for the interests and inclusion of international students.
By volunteering for the committee you get the chance to build an organisation from scratch. You will be part of an active and engaged community, wanting to build a sustainable and inclusive student community at the University of Helsinki.
Interested? Come, join us! We would be happy to have you on board.
The Student Organisations Committee participates in supporting the organisations that operate under us and developing their activities. During the year, it organises many training events for organisational actors as well as allocates Alina Hall reservations in the autumn and spring. Every autumn, the Student Organisations Committee also rewards distinguished organisation heroes and names the overall badge of the year among other contests included in its organisation contests that are open to everyone.
Are you interested in study affairs? The Studies Committee is a place for all students interested in study affairs and educational policy to get information, form networks and discuss study affairs. The committee is a network for student representatives and the study advisors of organisations in particular: it can provide you with help, advice and peer support for your tasks.
Hi, I’m Ania Séraphin and I’m the chair of the bilingualism committee this spring. I joined the committee because I want Swedish to be more visible in HYY and to narrow the gap between Swedish and Finnish speaking students!
My name is Lotta and I’m a third year sociology student. I joined the cooperation development committee because I wanted to contribute towards making the world just a little bit a better. The best part about being in a committee are all the fantastic people you get to work with for a common goal.
The environmental committee is a cozy committee which is easy to approach for all students who care about the environment. We’re an interdisciplinary group united by shared values and a passion to fight for our precious environment. The best part about what we do is being able to carry out fantastic ideas together and to get valuable experience in doing what you’re interested in.
Hey, I am Sofia, Co-chair of the International Committee. I am first and foremost a people and music lover. I enjoy the outdoors, for which Helsinki is the perfect place. Since I am a big fan of international, intercultural and interreligious exchange, I joined the International Committee at HYY. Are you eager to join or do you have questions, feedback or comments? Please get in touch!
Hi, I’m Nina and I’m a fifth-year teacher student and a first-year Changing Education student. The Studies Committee is an important information and communication channel and a way to bring change and share information related to studies. It’s nice to meet students from different faculties, catch up with them and network while affecting things that concern us all.
