Updating article on the status of the lift renovation in the New Student House

We are using this article to provide updates on the status of the lift renovation in the New Student House –which premises are available to use and what restrictions are in effect. The article will be updated as needed, and organisations will always be informed of this by email, too.

Updated on 9 September 2022

The current estimate is that the lift renovation will be completed in January 2023. During this time the organisation premises will be partly out of use and the Wilhelmson and Alina halls will be completely out of use. For the time being, Humanistiklusteri, Nypolen and Kannuklusteri (3rd, 4th and 5th floor, left side) can be used by organisations 17.00-05.00. Toilets are not available on the 3rd floor.  Lighting and electricity are provided by temporary arrangements, Ovens and stoves are not in use, otherwise the kitchens can be used as normal. According to current information, these special arrangements will continue until January, when the facilities will return to normal use.

Premises in the New Student House opened for evening use from 5 September onwards

  • Humanistiklusteri (Illuusio and Utopia, that is, the left side of the floor)
  • Nypolen (except for the hall)
  • Kannuklusteri (Marx and Beauvoir; note! there are no toilet facilities available)

These premises can be used every day from 5.00 pm to 5.00 am. The time restriction is also in effect during the weekend. At other times, 5.00 am–5.00 pm, staying or moving around in the New Student House is forbidden. During this time, the building is a building site.

The area of the building site has been clearly marked with walls, and users of the premises are required to observe the boundaries of the building site when using the premises. We will take stern action against any misconduct related to the building site. Moving around in and using the premises requires you to take more care than usual and to take safety into account. Because of the building site, the staircase has visible protective covers, and using the stairs in this state requires special care. Defacing, tearing or otherwise damaging the protective covers is obviously forbidden. To ensure that we can keep the New Student House open for organisations while work at the building site continues requires every organisation, person involved in the organisations and participant of their events to carefully observe all instructions and rules.

It is possible that we will need to amend the instructions on using the premises on short notice.

The electricity for the New Studenthouse organization premises has to be connected from the worksite power supply. This means that there is not enough power for the ovens and stoves, so they will be disconnected. Therefore, making food in the premises will not be possible for now. The fridges are however working normally. It is also possible, that all of the sockets may not be operational.
