NEWS

In its meeting on 1 December 2020, HYY’s Representative Council has appointed a 12-member board for 2021. Jessika Isomeri was selected as the chair.

HYY’s Representative Council had its meeting on 1 December 2020, selecting a new board for the Student Union for 2021. The council appointed Jessika Isomeri (HYAL) as the chair of the Board, with 11 other members also selected for the Board.

‘I am very excited to get to lead HYY’s Board and operations next year! Together with our amazing and skilled board, we will get to face next year’s challenges and continue the long-term work for our community. As the chair, my most important duty is to make sure that the Board and everyone else at HYY’s Central Office are able to cope with their duties throughout the year to ensure that our advocacy work will be successful. We should be bold in our work but also remember not to overexert ourselves. Coping and wellbeing should always be the priority’, states Isomeri, the newly-appointed chair.

Before the actual selection of the board, the Representative Council groups nominated their own candidates. There was one candidate for the position of the chair and 12 for members of the Board. According to HYY’s Constitution, the Representative Council elects the former of the Board, who is authorised to make a proposal to the Representative Council on the composition of the 7–13-member Board from among the candidates for the Board.

The Representative Council’s meeting also decided on the composition of the Preparatory Committee and next year’s Programme of Objectives, which will form the basis for planning HYY’s operations for 2021. The focus of our operation will be on advocacy work, the promotion of mental health among students, advocacy work on the municipal elections, communality, the development of volunteer activities and the development of wellbeing at work at HYY’s Central Office.
