Get involved in building more sustainable university!

NEWS

The University has various ongoing projects and working groups related to the development of sustainability and responsibility. We are now looking for student representatives for these groups to ensure that student perspectives are also considered when the themes are being processed. Apply by 24 March 2022!

SUSTAINABILITY AND RESPONSIBILITY COMMITTEE

The sustainability and responsibility committee oversees the preparation and implementation of the policies of the University’s programme on sustainability and responsibility. The goal is to make sustainability and responsibility at the UH a more integral part of the university’s activities. If questions of sustainability lie close to your heart and the idea of a more responsible university gets you excited, this is your opportunity to direct the entire University towards a sustainable direction!

STEERING GROUP OF THE UNIVERSITY’S PROJECT ON SUSTAINABILITY AND RESPONSIBILITY

The University of Helsinki has been conducting a project on sustainability and responsibility, aimed at implementing the University’s Sustainability and Responsibility Plans. The goal of the project is to integrate the structures of sustainability and responsibility work into the operation of different levels and operators at the University, to engage the University community in activities related to the themes and to strengthen the University’s profile as a pioneer of sustainability and responsibility. The steering group’s task is to monitor the progress of the  project on sustainability and responsibility and to oversee the resourcing of the project.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME?

The only criterion to be selected is being registered for attendance at the University of Helsinki. You do not need to have any prior knowledge. Reading the meeting material, asking for opinions from, depending on the situation, other students or your subject organisation on the themes of the meeting and discussing matters in the meeting itself are quite enough to be successful in the position. The Student Union also provides you with support and expertise for working in University administration.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE POSITION?

Your application should clearly indicate your current major or degree programme and study orientation as well as your student number. (The student number is only used to verify your faculty and attendance status. The information will be deleted after they have been verified.) The Student Union considers the following as advantages, and we recommend including any related information in your application:

1) Motivation towards serving in the position
2) Vision and/or interest in sustainability and responsibility activities
3) Previous experience of acting as a student representative in administration, as a person in charge of academic affairs or in some other position related to student advocacy work
4) Contacts with other students and readiness to communicate to them

The Student Union hopes to receive applications from representatives of different genders and people in different stages of their studies from diverse backgrounds. The Student Union strives to take into account the representation of different disciplines when making the selections.
