Apply to the Selection Committee of your faculty’s student representatives!
UPDATE 18th September: The call for applications has been extended until 25th September in the following faculties: Agriculture and Forestry, Educational Sciences, Pharmacy, Science, Social Sciences, Theology and Veterinary Medicine.
The Student Union of the University of Helsinki is looking for at least three members for the selection committees of all faculties to handle the selection of student representatives in autumn 2020.
WHAT DOES THE SELECTION COMMITTEE DO?
The selection committee reads the applications for the positions of student representatives in the steering groups of the degree programmes for which the faculty is responsible. The committee then makes justified proposals to the Student Union’s Board on the persons to be selected as members of the steering groups. To conduct this task, the selection committee convenes according to the schedule published on this page. HYY’s Board decides on the Student Union’s final proposal on the student representatives to be selected and the final nomination decision of student representatives is made by the dean of each faculty.
In the selection committee, you will get to influence the student representation of your faculty and ensure that the most motivated applicants are selected to look after students’ interests.
WHO CAN APPLY?
The prerequisites for acting in the selection committee are being a student registered for attendance in the faculty in question and being able attend the committee’s meetings according to the attached schedule. Please note that you cannot act in your faculty’s selection committee if you intend to apply to become a member of the steering group of a degree programme in that faculty.
HOW DO I APPLY TO THE SELECTION COMMITTEE?
Applications should be submitted at beta.halloped.fi by 15 September 2020.
The application should clearly indicate your current major or degree programme and your study orientation as well as your experience as relevant to the position. The application need not be long. In your application, please also let us know whether you are available for the position of chair or vice chair of the selection committee. Previous experience of acting as a student representative in administration, as a study advisor or in some other position related to student advocacy work is considered as an advantage.
The Student Union hopes to receive applications from representatives of different genders and people from different stages of their studies from diverse backgrounds. At least three members will be appointed to the selection committee, and we will strive to take into account the representation of different disciplines within each faculty when making the selections.
