HYY has updated its description of the publicity of documents

NEWS

The updated description of the publicity of documents in the Student Union of the University of Helsinki is now available on our website. HYY’s documents are generally public, and people have the right to request information on them.

In accordance with the ruling made by the Supreme Administrative Court (KHO 2024:4), the Student Union of the University of Helsinki has updated its practices concerning the application of the Act on the Openness of Government Activities to the Student Union’s activities. Everyone has the right of access to an official document in the public domain (621/1999, Section 9). HYY’s documents are generally public, which means that people have the right to request information on them. However, the documents may also include confidential information. In such cases, the confidentiality is based on the Act on the Openness of Government Activities or other legislation. All involved parties have the right to receive information on matters that concern themselves.

A separate section on the description of the publicity of documents in the Student Union of the University of Helsinki has been added to HYY’s website. The section contains principles related to the publicity of the Student Union’s documents as well as practices such as the way in which information requests should be submitted to the Student Union. The section also features an itemised list of the documentation and sets of documents in the possession of the Student Union of the University of Helsinki. In addition to this, the section includes the rates for the Student Union’s archive services as well as other practices related to fees.

‘The updated description of the publicity of documents helps our organisation operate even more transparently and accessibly than before’, Secretary General Kymäläinen explains.
