Get your organisation involved in influencing matters!
NEWS
The parliamentary elections are held this spring! The actual election day on 2 April is preceded by advance voting 22–28 March. Our goal is to get as many student-friendly candidates elected as possible. To achieve this goal, we need help from all organisations and students!
We will be organising all kinds of campaign stunts and events on campuses, in the city and online before the elections. Check out the different opportunities to influence matters from this article and help us secure the basic building blocks of student life!
Meetup to go vote together on 22 March
Join the massive meetup for students of the Capital Region to go vote together on the first day of advance voting on 22 March 2023! The goal of the stunt is to form an impressive long queue of students at a polling station. The meetup location and time will be confirmed later – follow our social media channels and the newsletter for organisations.
Advance voting contest for organisations
Will your organisation join the meetup to go vote together? HYY is organising a contest where organisations operating under HYY can win a free reservation to Alina Hall (worth €76)! The prize will be raffled off among all participating organisations.
Here is how your organisation can participate in the contest:
- Join HYY’s massive meetup on 22 March with your members/board. Alternatively, your organisation can organise its own meetup to go vote together on any other day during the advance voting period. Check out the advance polling stations here: https://tulospalvelu.vaalit.fi/EKV-2023/en/kupaik_091.html
- Take a photo outside the polling station. Please note that you cannot take photos at the polling station itself without a separate permission. Please also refrain from taking photos in the polling booth.
- Post the photo on your social media and tag HYY (Instagram @hyy_hus, Twitter @ylioppilaskunta, Facebook). Notice Instagram feed (not in Stories). If your organisation does not have a social media account, you can also send the photo by email to linnea.partanen@hyy.fi.
- If you are taking part in the contest in cooperation with other organisations, the Alina reservation will be awarded for the joint use of the participating organisations.
We are organising election events to raise the election mood
We are also organising various campaign stunts and events before the elections. These events will provide you with further information about the parliamentary elections and students’ main election themes.
HYY’s election panel on 22 March
We are organising an election panel for candidates at Think Corner from 5 pm onwards on 22 March. The programme of the event will be published later. Come and listen to the views of different political parties and candidates!
We will camp on campuses
We will be camping on campuses as part of our election campaign! You can find out about students’ main election themes and get acquainted with the candidates at our tents! Visit us on your nearest campus to talk about anything and everything related to the elections!
- Viikki 7 March
- Kumpula 14 March
- Porthania 22 March
If your organisation would like to participate in the camping on campuses or organise election-related activities in connection with the camping, please contact the member of our Board in charge of elections, Linnéa Partanen, at linnea.partanen@hyy.fi.
More visibility on social media
We will be conducting active election communication throughout the peak election season. You can like, share and save HYY’s posts on Instagram (@hyy_hus) and Twitter (@ylioppilaskunta). HYY’s election campaign will be published within a couple of weeks.
We also encourage all organisations and students to share information about the elections in their own social media channels. Why is voting important? What student-related decisions are made in the Finnish Parliament? When will voting take place?
You can also use the visual look and texts of HYY’s election campaign as part of your organisation’s communication. We will share a link to the material bank with organisations in an upcoming newsletter for organisations.
Check out HYY’s Parliamentary Election Programme
Our Parliamentary Election Programme has been made with students’ interests as the priority. For students, the issues that have an especially important role are the predictability and sufficiency of subsistence as well as ensuring the quality of education. By investing in these themes, we will improve the status of all students.
