1 Event safety day on 4 May 2021!

How can event safety be ensured when live events make their return? How should coronavirus safety be taken into account during the fresher autumn? Is there a need to discuss traditions that undermine the sense of safe space? HYY is planning an event safety day for 10 am–2 pm on 4 May 2021. Further information will be provided later.

2 Remote May Day is approaching – here is how to take part!

The second-ever remote May Day. This is something that we are sure no one hoped for, but here we are. Thankfully, we know how to have fun even without bubbly drinks at Manta and picnics at Ullanlinnanmäki!

We have planned various activities for the entire week of May Day to help everyone get into the right mood. Together, we will get to participate in the first-ever remote beer pong tournament covering the entire University of Helsinki, select the all-time best overall badge and the most dazzling tutor, vote on May Day party songs and share some entertaining May Day stories.

3 The application period for project grants is on 22 March–25 April

Do you, your friends or your organisation have a project in the works that needs some financial support to be realised? HYY’s project grant is the solution to this! We award project grants to organisations operating under us and to groups consisting of our members. We have a total of €6,000 to distribute as grants. These funds help you realise even your wilder and slightly more expensive ideas in a larger and higher-quality manner than normally possible! After the project, please send us a report on how your project went and how you spent the money! You can apply for a project grant by sending us a free-form application with a maximum length of two (2) A4 sheets. More detailed instructions and criteria for awarding the grants are available below.

You can apply for a project grant from 22 March onwards, and the deadline for applications is at 11.59 pm on 25 April. Please send your application and its attachments to jarjesto@hyy.fi.

4 Associations Act to undergo significant changes! Do not miss your opportunity to influence matters!

Should small organisations have the opportunity to keep their accounts without double-entry bookkeeping and financial statements? Should the possibility of having meetings and making decisions electronically be made easier? Would a registered action group that the planned legislation on action groups would permit be a better option for your operations than a registered association? These are among the many proposed changes that are simply waiting for your statements!

The Associations Act is being reformed, and new legislation on action groups is in the works to complement it.

Make a statement on the matter as an organisation or a private individual by 14 April 2021 at https://www.lausuntopalvelu.fi/FI/Proposal/Participation?proposalId=1b6edf0d-d70d-4957-b96a-1efa6db17ba4. The statements must be made in Finnish or Swedish.

5 Registration for Flora is now open!

This year, Flora brings springtime festivities directly to your home or picnic blanket at 5–7 pm on 12 May. The Flora broadcast will be a magnificent show created for us by both students and staff members. The broadcast will culminate in a performance by the brilliant singer Ilta, who is known from UMK, for instance.

And the best part is that all members of the University community can take part in this remote event. Students, University staff, alumni and UniCafe employees can all join the event – after all, Flora is the joint springtime celebration of our entire community.

You can sign up through this link: https://www.lyyti.fi/reg/flora2021/en

7 Apply for furniture purchasing grant!

HYY supports furniture purchases for interior decoration in organisational premises. The grant is intended for organisations which primarily operate on HYY’s premises and the grant is mainly directed to the purchasing of tables, chairs, cupboards with locks and other interior items. The aim is that the furniture would increase the cosiness of the organisational premises and the willingness of organisations to look after their premises even better.

When allocating the furniture grant, we pay attention to the following: the ecological aspect, sustainability and necessity of the purchase. The furniture grant is not supposed to cover the entire purchase price but organisations are also expected to participate in the financing of the purchase.

The grant can be applied all year round. You can apply for the grant with an informal application, which should include the following information:
– applying organisation/organisations
– applied furniture
– budget
– reasons for the purchase

Applications can be submitted by e-mail to jarjesto(at)hyy.fi or by mail to the Student Union of the University of Helsinki, PL 1099, 00101 HELSINKI. Organisations that receive the grant must provide copies of the receipts to the same address no later than within four months after the allocation of the grant.
