1 Situation report on the coronavirus

 

The organisational sector is reviewing the coronavirus situation every two weeks and will inform you of the situation with the restrictions as well as other possible matters related to the coronavirus situation in the newsletter for organisations.

2 Become a volunteer in the Fresher Adventure!

We are looking for skilled and energetic volunteers to help organise the most epic event of the autumn. Join us in welcoming new students and become a volunteer in the Fresher Adventure 5 October 2021! The Fresher Adventure offers you the opportunity to participate in organising the most important event of the fresher autumn and to show freshers all the incredible things that student life can offer. Application deadline is September 22 at 11.59 pm.

3 Promoting the visibility of organisations on HYY’s communication channels

Because we had to cancel the Opening Carnival, we would like to turn the spotlight on organisations operating under HYY in other ways instead! We also want our organisations to be presented in a way that is in line with their own activities. To this end, we would like you to send us an introduction video that provides information about your activities in your chosen style.

Our intention is to share the organisations’ own introduction videos on HYY’s YouTube channel and then share some highlights on social media. Naturally, you can also use the videos in your organisation’s marketing yourself!

How to make your introduction video:

  1. Film a free-form video with a length of around 1–2 minutes. HYY reserves the right to edit the video if needed, but our goal is to get as finalised videos as possible from the organisations. On your video, you could, for instance:
  2. Your video could answer some of the following questions, for instance:
    • What are your organisation’s everyday activities like?
    • What connects your members?
    • What is your organisation’s best event?
    • What kind of history does your organisation have?
    • Why should people get involved in your organisation’s activities?
  3. If you need any help, support or additional instructions for making the videos, feel free to contact HYY’s Communications Specialist Vilma Viertola (viertola@hyy.fi).
  4. Write a short summary of what is at the heart of your organisation.
    • Here is HYY’s summary to provide an example: ‘The Student Union of the University of Helsinki advocates students’ interests. We organise services, benefits and events to allow you to focus on the most important part: studying and student life. You can walk your own path safe in the knowledge that we will be there to smooth out the road ahead and advise you when needed. Our voice can be heard at the University, in the city and in events.’
  5. Send your videos and summaries to Communications Specialist Vilma Viertola (viertola@hyy.fi) by Monday 18 October.
    • If your file is too large to fit in your email, you can use WeTransfer, for instance.

4 Volunteer – start your autumn with us at Restart on 13 October!

The event was moved from September to October.

Would you like to get encouragement, support and new ideas for kickstarting the autumn’s activities? Join us at Restart, the event that helps you ease gently back to volunteering after the summer holiday.

At the event, you will get to hear thought-provoking speeches, learn new practical skills and focus on tackling the challenges created by an ever-changing operating field.

6 Apply for furniture purchasing grant!

HYY supports furniture purchases for interior decoration in organisational premises. The grant is intended for organisations which primarily operate on HYY’s premises and the grant is mainly directed to the purchasing of tables, chairs, cupboards with locks and other interior items. The aim is that the furniture would increase the cosiness of the organisational premises and the willingness of organisations to look after their premises even better.

When allocating the furniture grant, we pay attention to the following: the ecological aspect, sustainability and necessity of the purchase. The furniture grant is not supposed to cover the entire purchase price but organisations are also expected to participate in the financing of the purchase.

The grant can be applied all year round. You can apply for the grant with an informal application, which should include the following information:

– applying organisation/organisations

– applied furniture

– budget

– reasons for the purchase

Applications can be submitted by e-mail to jarjesto(at)hyy.fi or by mail to the Student Union of the University of Helsinki, PL 1099, 00101 HELSINKI. Organisations that receive the grant must provide copies of the receipts to the same address no later than within four months after the allocation of the grant.

7 Globe Hope offers responsibly produced student overalls

Orders for all kinds of things is a sure sign of autumn in the student community. New students need badges, song books and most importantly student overalls. Globe Hope would like to offer the student organizations of HYY a possibility to order responsible and durable quality overalls made from recycled materials at a lower price. 8 Overall badges and other products from Promler at a 15% discount for HYY’s organisations in 2021

HYY has agreed on a special discount for all HYY’s organisations when ordering overall badges and other products from Promler.fi!

We will get overall badges and other products at a discount of 15% for the entire year 2021 as long as we remember to mention the discount code found in the e-mail version when asking for offers and ordering.

The other products include printed college sweaters, hoodies, t-shirts, tote bags, badges and reflectors.

The discount code is meant only for HYY’s organisations.
