Pia Blomstén is our new event production intern!

NEWS

Our event sector was reinforced early in the year when Student of Cultural Management Pia Blomstén began work as our new event production intern.

HYY is heading towards a busy spring in terms of events: we will get to organise many major events, including the Crowning of Manta, the Grand Sitsit and the traditional Flora’s Day. Having started work as our event production intern in January, Pia Blomstén will be in charge of producing these events together with our producer, Arttu Lehtinen. Pia will have the main responsibility for producing the Flora’s Day campus festival, held in May. She will coordinate and plan the event, which will be organised in cooperation with the University of Helsinki and subject organisations.

Pia, who hails from Vaasa, is a fourth-year student of cultural management at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. In her studies, she has focused especially on managing volunteer activities and coordinating events. Pia is familiar with student culture and organising student events: she has previously produced the spex of student union METKA and served as the chair of METKA’s Student Parliament as well as in Demoni ry, the subject association for students of culture at Metropolia. She has also worked as a production intern for the PianoEspoo Festival, where she was in charge of producing the concerts of young pianists.

During her internship, Pia is eager to get to learn more about event production, including area planning, drafting notifications for the authorities and applying for permits. ‘I’m also looking forward to experiencing the actual day of the event – it will be great to get to see what we’ve managed to achieve together!’, she describes her expectations.

During her spare time, Pia likes to watch Netflix, listen to audiobooks and spend time with her loved ones. While waiting for this spring’s events, she intends to embark on an overall badge sewing project in order to get to celebrate her last May Day as a student in fully covered overalls.
