1. Organisational premises Vappu lockdown

May Day is approaching. Every year, the New Student House, Domus Gaudium and Mechelininkatu 3D are closed on May Day.

All events must end and the people must leave the buildings by 5pm on Tuesday, 30 April. Houses are closed until 10am on Wednesday. Between this period, residing on the premises is prohibited.

If it is important for your organisation to prepare the picnic in the morning or pick up the goods, you can negotiate on the issue. The organisation must submit a name list of persons who will come to make preparations. Also mention the time when the persons will be on the premises. Please submit the name lists to the address toimisto@hyy.fi no later than Thursday, 25 April. Name lists will be sent to Securitas guards on Friday, 26 April. They are authorised to remove all persons from the premises whose names are not found in the list. Please note that it is prohibited to consume alcoholic beverages on the premises.

If you have any questions about the matter, please get in touch.

Kind regards,
Tiina Petäjä

2. Havis Amanda’s crowning event happens this May Day Eve on Kansalaistori!

See you at Kansalaistori! This year, the legendary Manta crowning event will take place at Kansalaistori Square, next to Oodi. The event is organised by the University of Arts Student Union (ArtSU). The event starts at 4.30 p.m. and Havis Amanda gets her student cap at 6.00 p.m. Once Manta is crowned with her student cap, it’s the turn of the great headliner to take the stage.

You can reach Kansalaistori on foot from the direction of Töölönlahti. It is advisable to arrive at Kansalaistori well in advance, so that you are most likely to find a good place to watch the crowning event, which will make Havis Amanda herself dance.

3. Would you like to showcase your organisation’s activities to new students in autumn 2024?

HYY is organising or involved in the organisation of three events aimed at new students, and organisations are very welcome to get involved too. You can use this form to sign up for the events of your choice all at once – and update your details later if needed. Registration using the form is open until 11.59 pm on 14 August.

Check-in Event 28–29 August is an event aimed at new international students, providing them with an opportunity to learn about various useful services, the University and, of course, student activities. Each participating organisation has its own stand at the event.

The Opening Carnival 2 September is a cheerful opening celebration of the new academic year for all students at the University of Helsinki. The event will feature tents, action and feats of skill from the entire student community. Each participating organisation has its own stand at the event.

The Fresher Adventure on 18 September is the largest event for new students in Finland. At the event, new students compete for top performances all around downtown Helsinki, learning about different student activities at wild checkpoints. Each participating organisation at the event has their own checkpoint.

5. Participate in HYY x international activities -meeting

HYY invites organisations to discuss internationality and multilinguliasm in the operation of organisations. How to include exchange students in activities? What to do if all members don’t speak the same language? If these kinds of questions are on your mind or if you have any tips regarding these themes, then come and join the event! The meeting is at the New Studenthouse at HYY’s central office, 2nd floor, on Monday 22 April at 4:30-6 pm. The sign-up form is open till Sunday 23.59.

7. Would you like to sell your organisation’s overall badges through HYY’s Services Office?

Does your organisation have gorgeous overall badges but no opportunities to sell them? We have a solution for you! HYY is launching an overall badge brokerage service, allowing organisations operating under it to have their badges sold at HYY’s Services Office. HYY will take a 10% commission on sold badges to cover the costs caused by the brokerage. Sales revenue will be paid to the organisations twice a year.
