Nanni Tuominen appointed as HYY’s communications intern!

NEWS

Nanni Tuominen started as our communications intern in September.

Communications Intern Tuominen supports Communications Specialist Janne Kajander and the rest of the communication sector in their daily work. During the three-month internship, Tuominen’s desk will include tasks such as writing newsletters, social media posts and news articles, but also larger issues related to the Representative Council elections and the development of communication, for instance.

As a student at the University of Helsinki, Tuominen is already familiar with HYY. Her studies in politics, media and communication at the Faculty of Social Sciences are in their final stretch, and the internship provided a welcome break for reflection before the final courses and master’s thesis.

‘It has been fun to try out as diverse positions as possible during my studies to find my own thing’, Tuominen explains.

The relaxed yet effective atmosphere at HYY already impressed the intern during her first years at the University, when she was involved in the activities of the Development Cooperation Committee. The impression that there were enthusiastic people working to make the Student Union not only meaningful for students but also societally impactful already formed in Tuominen’s mind back then.

Tuominen has previously worked as an intern at the Prime Minister’s Office and in the organisation Save the Children Finland. She is especially interested in equality, power structures, communality and the transformation of democracy – all themes that are relevant to HYY’s operations, too.

‘It is great to get to work in a traditional organisation that is still youthful and has the ability to change. During these three months, I hope to learn about student-led communication and the promotion of student wellbeing as diversely as possible.’

In her free time, Tuominen relaxes through dancing in particular. Being originally from the countryside, spending time in nature is also close to her heart.
