Mathilda Timmer appointed as specialist in educational policy!

NEWS

Our educational policy sector was reinforced in December when Master of Social Sciences Mathilda Timmer began work as one of our two specialists in educational policy.

Together with Marianna Suokas, the other specialist in our educational policy sector, Mathilda Timmer is in charge of advocacy work related to HYY’s higher education policy and the University of Helsinki. In addition to this, Mathilda’s diverse duties include matters related to national educational policy, internationalisation at the University, the development of teaching and other teaching-related matters.

Mathilda, or Matte, has graduated as Master of Social Sciences from the University of Helsinki. Her major was political history, with a focus on UN themes. Mathilda has accumulated skills related to educational policy in various positions of trust at the University, including the collegium and the Academic Appeals Board, as well as on HYY’s Board where she was the person in charge of educational policy. ‘Before returning to HYY, I’ve been in NYC to learn about the communication of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as worked with influencer communication here in Finland!’ Mathilda describes her work experience.

Mathilda was attracted to HYY by our skilled and cosy work community and, above all, work with issues she considers important: ‘HYY conducts a lot of important advocacy work for the students of the University of Helsinki, and it is a great feeling to get to add my own contribution and skills to this work!’ Mathilda exclaims.

After graduation, Matte, who grew up in western Helsinki, has enjoyed her new-found spare time by studying more. She tells us she dreams of getting a doctorate some day: ‘I’ve never opened a bottle of bubbly because I’m scared of the pop, but my secret public dream is to get a doctorate at some point and then pop open a bottle of bubbly with the fancy doctoral sword to celebrate the occasion!’

Mathilda’s predecessor, Topias Tolonen, moved into a new position as a doctoral researcher at the Uppsala University.
