Call for applications to HYY’s delegation to the general assembly of the National Union of University Students in Finland 13–14 November 2026

In its meeting on 24 September 2026, the Board of the Student Union of the University of Helsinki decided to open a call for applications to HYY’s delegation to the general assembly of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL).
The number of votes assigned to the Student Union is determined based on the number of members we had the previous year. The Student Union gets one vote for every thousand members. HYY has a total of 28 votes.
HYY’s votes are distributed in accordance with the SYL–OLL background memorandum approved by the Representative Council on 27 May 2025. HYY’s Board has given each Representative Council group the opportunity to apply for a vote. One delegate may have either one or two votes at the general assembly. A personal vice delegate is appointed for each delegate. The Representative Council groups may decide for themselves how many delegates they have using the votes assigned to them. If a Representative Council group cannot fill its delegate positions itself, HYY’s Board will allocate its vote to the next group in the allocation model.
HYY’s Board hopes to get motivated and committed delegates. The general assembly delegates must participate in the work at the assembly in HYY’s own preparatory meetings, in working groups during the assembly and in the sessions held in the great hall at the assembly. Previous experience of general assemblies or SYL is not required.

The Representative Council groups must nominate their delegates to the general assembly along with their personal vice delegates by entering their details in the Excel table sent out with the call for applications and sending it by email to olli.jalonen@hyy.fi by 11.59 pm on Sunday 4 October. Each group must also appoint a contact person to communicate with HYY from among their delegates.
The general assembly is held 13–14 November in Otaniemi, Espoo. A more detailed tentative schedule of the general assembly along with other possible further information will be sent out in October together with the actual invitation to the general assembly. SYL does not provide HYY with accommodation for the duration of the general assembly.
The first training and info session for the general assembly delegation will be held 6.30–8.00 pm on Tuesday 20 October in the Linja hall at Domus Gaudium (entrance from Leppäsuonkatu 11). During the event, the delegates will be provided with general information about the general assembly, practices in place at the assembly and the course of the assembly.
The second training and preparation event for the general assembly delegation will be held 6.00–8.00 pm on Tuesday 27 October in the Linja hall at Domus Gaudium (entrance from Leppäsuonkatu 11). During the event, we will go through the general assembly material and discuss HYY’s delegation’s views on it.
Work in the general assembly is conducted in working groups. The contents of the working groups will be confirmed when the invitation to the general assembly is sent out. HYY’s delegates will be assigned their working groups after the contents have been confirmed. Working group–specific meetings will be held 6–8 pm on Tuesday 3 November at HYY’s Central Office at Domus Gaudium (entrance from Leppäsuonkatu 11).
SYL will organise its own info session for delegates to the general assembly on Tuesday 3 November over remote connection. The meeting time and the participation link will be sent out later.
