Apply to HYY’s International Task Force!

Are you interested in developing HYY and the University of Helsinki as an international student?

HYY is looking for 5 to 8 students to participate in HYY’s International Task Force. Apply by 6 September!

As a member of the task force, you will be participating in developing HYY’s advocacy work aimed towards international students and international affairs. Additionally, the task force will work on increasing the participation of international students within the Student Union. The task force also acts as a pilot for a permanent committee, and its term is from September 2021 to December 2021.

The goals of the International Task Force will be as follows:

● Acting as a pilot for a permanent international committee within HYY, made up of international degree students
● Planning and developing a permanent and sustainable international committee within HYY, to be started by January 2022, or prepare some other means to increase international students’ participation within HYY.
● Preparing a section on internationalisation for HYY’s Programme of Objectives for 2022 for HYY’s Board to present to the Representative Council.
● If necessary, formulating further objectives that align with this proposal for itself.

Definition of international student and tentative task force meeting times:

For the purposes of this task force, an international student refers to a degree-seeking student at the UH who self-identifies as international. This could mean that they have moved to Finland from another country, completed their previous education in another country or are a student in an international master’s programme.

Tentative times for the International Task Force meetings are from 4 pm to 6 pm on Wednesdays 22 September, 29 September and 13 October, and from 4 pm to 6 pm on Mondays 25 October, 8 November, 15 November, 29 November and 13 December.

Application process:

● Task force members may be current international students or recent graduates (graduated from UH during the academic year 2020–2021).
● The application period is open from 23 August to 6 September. Late submissions may not be considered.
● Task force members will be selected by HYY’s Board. The Board is to form the task force to be as diverse and representative as possible from the point of view of background, nationality, studies, gender, and other similar characteristics. In the selection, the applicants’ motivation, intercultural skills and vision on internationalisation within HYY, the UH and Finland are considered as advantages.

To apply, please send a short application letter displaying your motivation, intercultural skills and vision on internationalisation within HYY, the UH and Finland to topias.tolonen@hyy.fi with ‘International Task Force’ as the subject by 6 September at 23.59 CET+1. In your application letter, please also mention whether you wish to be considered for the position of chair of the task force as well as whether you would like to be contacted for other means of inclusion should your application be rejected. In addition, please let us know if you are unavailable for the tentative meeting times listed above.
