Apply for interesting new positions for student representatives!

The University has two interesting, brand-new positions available for student representatives. One of them is in a working group at the University, while the other is in a working group preparing Una Europa’s joint bachelor’s programmes. In addition to these two, interesting positions are also opening up on Una Europa’s Student Board.

Working group on tuition fees and grants

A working group is being established at the University of Helsinki to review the future guidelines for the tuition fees of the University’s international degrees. The working group will also follow the reports and results of the work of a working group set by the Ministry of Education and Culture to monitor and evaluate the implementation of tuition fees in higher education institutions. In this working group, you will thus get to monitor, assess and work on an extremely topical issue! You will also get to influence the grant system, as the working group will prepare proposals on developing the grant system.

The working group’s duties include:

  • Assessing the level of the tuition fees of the international bachelor’s and master’s programmes at the University of Helsinki, the functionality of the grant system from the perspective of degree programmes and the needs to develop the application and selection process
  • Drafting a proposal on changes to the 2022 grant system by 15 September 2021, taking into account the new national ‘Finland’ grant programme
  • Drafting a final report by 30 November 2021, including proposals on necessary long-term changes to the tuition fees of the international bachelor’s and master’s programmes at the University of Helsinki, the grant system, the revenue model of degree programmes and the application and selection process

The working group consists of employees from University administration, deans and directors of degree programmes. We are looking for one actual student representative for the working group. The working group’s term lasts until the end of 2021, and its working language is Finnish. This is an amazing opportunity to get to influence a topical issue!

Working group on preparing Una Europa’s joint bachelor’s programmes

As part of the education cooperation of the Una Europa university alliance, the University of Helsinki is taking part in the creation of two new bachelor’s programmes, which will be realised in cooperation with seven partner universities (Freie Universität Berlin, Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna, the University of Edinburgh, Uniwersytet Jagielloński w Krakowie, KU Leuven, Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne).

One of the bachelor’s programmes will be in the field of European studies and the other in sustainability science. The programmes are interdisciplinary, and their teaching language is English. The University of Helsinki will participate in the cooperation as a mobility partner, by offering study modules for the programmes. As a result of the cooperation, students of the University of Helsinki will have the opportunity of taking part in the teaching offered by the Una Europa universities. You can read more about the background of the joint bachelor’s programmes on Una Europa’s website: https://www.una-europa.eu/initiatives/joint-european-bachelor.

We are looking for two actual student representatives for the working group. The working group’s term is 1 June 2021–31 December 2023. The representatives must be basic degree students registered for attendance at the University of Helsinki. They must have completed studies in European studies and sustainability science and/or have vision on teaching in these fields. However, we hope that the student representatives would represent different disciplines and, if possible, different campuses. The working language of the working group will be either English or Finnish, depending on the participants.

Una Europa’s Student board

Una Europa is a European university alliance connecting eight European universities. The mission of Una Europa is to create a European inter-university environment that combines high-quality research, international learning and innovative, critical thinking. The cooperation has five focus areas:

The Student Union of the University of Helsinki is now looking for one actual and one vice representative to Una Europa’s Student Board for the term 1 August 2021–31 July 2023. The Student Board consists of student representatives, and it is one of the decision-making bodies of Una Europa. The Student Board will organise itself annually at the beginning of academic years, meeting both physically and virtually throughout its terms. The University of Helsinki will reimburse any possible travel costs.

The student members will take part in Una Europa’s working groups, organise Una Europa’s student congress and communicate about Una Europa’s operation and the opportunities it offers to the students of their own University. The Board’s working language is English, which means that fluency in English is a requirement for serving on Una Europa’s Student Board. For this reason, we are requesting that you write your application in English.
