Flora

Flora is the springtime celebration of the students of the University of Helsinki. It has been bringing students together to enjoy the end of the academic year for a couple of centuries now. This year will be there last time we will be celebrating the spring at the most legendary of locations: the New Student House.

Flora 2026

The springtime of life and the bloom of youth!

We are organising a farewell party worthy of the New Student House – the last party taking over the entire building – on Flora’s Day, 13 May 2026. The celebrations begin at noon and continue late into the evening. This is a great opportunity to take a final look at the premises, enjoy the atmosphere at a quick dinner party in Alina or reminisce about the good old times. Activities at the event are organised by HYY and student organisations. See you there!

Join the celebration!

Ticket sales for Flora will open in Kide.app at 2 pm on 14 April. The ticket price is €XX.

The event will feature several time slots consisting of two-hour tours. The activities during different tours may vary. The maximum number of participants for one time slot is 200. The New Student House will be cleared of participants after each tour.

The first time slot of the event will begin at 12 noon, with a ceremonial part of the event held in front of the New Student House in connection with it. The last time slot of the event will end by midnight. A ceremonial part will also be organised after the last time slot ends.

Flora’s Day will naturally be followed by Flora’s Night, which will take place at Hämäläis-Osakunta! Tickets for the afterparty will become available separately at a later time.

The programme of the event will be published later!

Alumni are also welcome to Flora

Former students, or alumni, of the University of Helsinki are also welcome to join the event. A separate quota has been reserved for alumni for each time slot. We especially recommend the ceremonial part held at Ylioppilasaukio in connection with the first time slot for alumni.

Flora's Night

As Flora’s Day turns into Flora’s Night, we will head towards Kamppi to start the afterparty at Hämäläis-Osakunta, or Hämis. Further information on Flora’s Night will be provided later!

    • Event safety

Please note that it is not possible to organise other events at the New Student House during Flora to ensure everyone’s safety (fire safety requirements). The New Student House will have access control throughout the event, which means that no-one can enter the premises without a ticket or organisation duties agreed in advance.

    • Principles of safer space

HYY’s principles of safer space are in effect at Flora.

At HYY’s events, you can participate in discussions and activities without fear of inappropriate treatment or harassment. Safe space is created in the interaction between people, and each one of us is responsible for this.

If you observe any shortcomings related to safety or encounter inappropriate behaviour at the event, you can contact the persons in charge of event safety appointed for the event.

You can reach the persons in charge of event safety throughout the event. You can identify them by their pink vests. Any contacts with them are confidential.

    • Arriving at the event

The event is held at the New Student House (at Mannerheimintie 5 A, 00100 Helsinki). We recommend arriving at the event by foot, bike or public transport if possible.

The location has good public transport connections from the Helsinki central railway station, for instance, where you can arrive by commuter train, bus, metro or tram. Read more about the accessibility of public transport on HSL’s website.

The drop-off area is located near the entrance to staircase B of the New Student House (at Mannerheimintie 5 B, 00100 Helsinki). The route from the drop-off area to the main entrance of the New Student House includes cobblestones.

    • Physical restrictions at the venue

The event is organised at the New Student House. As an old, protected building, it is only partially accessible.

      • Access to the New Student House’s student premises is through staircase 5 A.
        • A ramp leads up to the door, but it is steep (incline of over 9%).
      • Doorways in the building are narrower than 900 mm in places and may also have thresholds higher than 20 mm.
        • On the 3rd floor, for example, the width of the doorway to the hall is 1,370 mm when both doors are open and 685 mm when only one door is open. The threshold on the right-hand doorway is sloped (10 mm – 22 mm – 10 mm from the floor), making it wheelchair-accessible. Entrance to Alina Hall from the left-hand lobby is not accessible as the threshold of the doorway leading to the hall is 27 mm high.
      • You can access the floors by using a platform lift and a lift.
        • The lift is 1,600 mm deep, and its door is 895 mm wide.
        • A separate permit is needed to use the lift. Please inform the event’s contact person of your need to use the lift in advance.
      • An induction loop borrowed from our Services Office can be used in the building.
        • Please let us know if you need to use the induction loop in advance by contacting the event’s contact person.
      • You can bring an assistance or guide dog into the building.
      • Floors 2, 3 and 6 in the building include a right-handed accessible toilet.
        • Toilet facilities in the building are unisex facilities.
        • Doors to the toilet facilities can be identified by the signs on the wall.
    • Sensory accessibility at the event

Music played at the event can be loud at times. The venue may be crowded, noisy and hot at times. The venue may have bright lights, loud noises or strong smells.

Large spaces and lobby facilities may be noisy and have an echo.

The event has a separate silent room to retreat to in the premises of HYY’s office on the second floor. The door to the room has a sign with the text ‘silent room’ on it.

    • Do you still have questions?
