Inspiration, development, tuning!

Do you want to develop yourself as an organisational actor? Would you like to get some tips and inspiration for tuning your organisation and making it even better? Join us at HYY’s Tuning Day to receive both training and inspiration! Tuning Day is a training event full of diverse training for the different officials working at organisations. You will get lots of chances to learn something new at the event whether you are active in a hobby organisation, a student nation, a subject organisation or a faculty organisation!

Tuning Day 2023 is held at 3–8 pm on Wednesday 15th of February in the University’s premises in Soc&Kom (Snellmaninkatu 12, Helsinki) and Metsätalo (Unioninkatu 40, Helsinki). Advance registration is required for the event.

Unfortunately, the workshops are only held in Finnish. The premises are accessible.

Workshops

You can pick any combination that interests you out of the Tuning Day training sessions. The training session on antiracism is meant for all participants. In addition to it, you can choose one training session from category B and one from category C. The training session for treasurers lasts for the entire duration of the B- and C-training sessions.

Workshop descriptions

A. Training session on accessibility

Accessibility is a cross-cutting issue, encompassing the built environment, communication and attitudes. This training will look at the issues that organisations can use to promote accessibility and thus equality through their own activities. After the training, you will also have a better understanding of what accessibility is all about.

B1. How to avoid burning the candle at both ends – how to keep going

B2. Student representatives’ 101

In this training session, you will receive basic information on current issues in educational policy that are relevant to students as well as on students’ influencing opportunities at the University. The training session is especially suitable for new study advisors and others interested in student advocacy work and does not require previous knowledge about educational policy.

B3. Taking environmental matters into account in organisational activities

What do sustainable organisational activities look like? Join us to discuss environmental themes, organisational activities and concrete ways of influencing matters in this training session organised by the Environmental Committee! The session is suitable for everyone interested in the theme and especially for the persons in charge of environmental matters in organisations.

C1.Student representatives, make a difference at the university!

Join us to learn about influencing at university! The training will cover the what, why and how of lobbying. You will learn about the different ways of lobbying, the main steps to take, and the different communication tools to use when lobbying. During the training, you will have the opportunity to talk to other student leaders and hear about current topics for the university year 2023! This training will support the Study advisors 101 training.

C2. Managing an organisation’s communications

This training session provides an introduction to the basic building blocks of communication and ways to develop an organisation’s communication. We will go through different aspects of the strategic planning of communication as well as how to target and measure communication. We will also reflect on ways to utilise organisational communication in exceptional situations.

C3. Networking and brainstorming – internationality in organisational activities

Would you like to meet other people involved in organisations and promote internationality? Are you looking for new ideas on how to develop international activities in your organisation? In this training session, you will get to learn about various opportunities in organisational activities, reflect on ways in which internationality and the status of international students can be promoted in student organisations and network with others interested in these themes!

The training is held in English.

C4. Utilising organisational activities in working life

How can you ensure that you will fully utilise your experience from organisational activities in working life? This training session provides you with the tools to identify and verbalise your experience and skills from organisational activities as well as make them appropriate for job-seeking!

C5. Good administration – what, why and how?

The goal of this training session, aimed at the secretaries and chairs of associations in particular, is to go through the basics of association administration and offer tips for making it easier to manage the routines of everyday association life. Themes of the session include drafting documents and utilising them effectively, archiving, the Associations Act and meeting technique.

 

D. Training session for treasurers

The training session for treasurers provides an introduction to the basics of financial management and the treasurer’s responsibilities as well as the use of the Tilitin accounting software.
