Workshop descriptions

A. Training session on antiracism

Public discussion on racism is often slow and frustrating because there are several common misconceptions about the theme in our culture, such as the idea that racism is all about good and bad people. In reality, it is a much more complex societal phenomenon, with all of us occupying several different positions in relation to the theme. During this training session, we will turn our focus towards unlearning and deconstructing harmful modes of thinking. We will try to provide some clarity on what we actually mean when we discuss structural racism. Sensitivity and changing the culture are ultimately about working on your emotions and on giving something up – how is this done? After recapping the discussion, we will end the session by reflecting on what issues should be taken into account when the aim is to produce sensitive and inclusive activities.

B1. Accessibility in organisational activities

Contents of the training session will be confirmed later.

B2. Academic affairs 101

What are the duties and influencing opportunities of persons in charge of academic affairs? Where do you get support for advocacy work on matters concerning students, and who are the most important cooperation parties? This training session provides you with basic information on students’ influencing opportunities at the University as well as current issues in educational policy that are relevant to students. The session is especially well suited for new persons in charge of academic affairs as well as others interested in study advocacy work, and it does not require previous knowledge of educational policy.

B3. Taking international students into account in organisational activities

How to reach international students? How can an organisation consider the wishes of members with different languages and act equally? How can an organisation operate in two languages? In this training we discuss ways to get international students into organisations activities and how an international student can participate in the board of an organisation. We share good practices, from which participants may get ideas and tips for their own operations.

B4. Utilising organisational activities in working life

What skills and competences do you have? This is a difficult question, and practising how to answer it is advisable. How do you verbalise all the skills you have learned both on lectures and outside them? How do you utilise all the skills from your hobbies and organisational activities when looking for a job? During this lecture, we will go through tips and methods for verbalising and utilising your skills when writing job application documents.

B5. Taking environmental affairs into account in organisational activities

What do sustainable organisational activities look like? Join us to discuss environmental themes, organisational activities and concrete ways of influencing matters in this training session organised by the Environmental Committee! The session is suitable for everyone interested in the theme and especially for the persons in charge of environmental matters in organisations.
