The Student Union of the University of Helsinki supports the Ukrainians

NEWS

The Student Union of the University of Helsinki (HYY) condemns the Russian hostilities in Ukraine and expresses its support for the Ukrainians.

HYY strongly condemns the Russian hostilities in Ukraine and expresses its support and compassion to the Ukrainians and Ukraine. Ylva, company owned by HYY, is donating €10,000 to UNICEF in order to support children and families in Ukraine. From Wednesday 2 March onwards, HYY and Ylva will fly the flag of Ukraine at the Old Student House as a show of our support. This continues until further notice.

The war in Ukraine is causing great anxiety among students. Discussion help and support is provided by various parties, including study psychologists, university chaplains and different associations. Further information on parties providing help is available on the websites of HYY and the University of Helsinki.

HYY expresses its wish that no one blames the Russians and people with a Russian background in our community for the events in Ukraine. Governments are responsible for wars, not individual citizens. HYY does not condone any kind of violence, harassment, racism or discriminatory behaviour or language.
