Paula Karhunen’s fixed-term contract as the secretary general extended

HYY’s Board decided to extend Paula Karhunen’s fixed-term contract as the Student Union’s secretary general in its meeting on 20 March 2025. Karhunen was appointed as the substitute for the secretary general for the period 18 November 2024–10 August 2025 in the Representative Council’s meeting on 15 November 2024. Karhunen’s contract is extended until 10 December 2025 in accordance with HYY’s Board’s decision.
‘We on HYY’s Board have been very satisfied with Paula’s work as the secretary general. We felt it natural to conclude the year’s decision-making processes with her. This also allows us to make recruitment decisions on the next permanent secretary general on a schedule that is more in line with HYY’s annual cycle’, Chair of HYY’s Board Petra Pulli comments on the decision.
According to Section 68 of HYY’s Administrative Regulation, the Board has the authority to appoint a deputy for the secretary general for a period of no more than four months. You can read about Karhunen’s thoughts about the future and HYY’s current state in her blog post.
