1. Apply for an operating grant from HYY!

HYY annually awards operating grants to organisations. The application period for this year’s grants is 1–28 February.

Your organisation will be sent an invitation to fill in the application form for operating grants by email. The invitation will be sent to the address you have submitted as the organisation’s general email address through the contact details form for organisations. If you have not filled out the contact form or received an invitation to the application form, please contact us by email at janne.saranpaa@hyy.fi.

You must attach your organisation’s financial and operating documents to the application. These documents are defined in more detail in the document Schedule for the operating grants 2026. Please note that preliminary versions of the documents or an explanation for why a certain document cannot yet be submitted is sufficient. The final versions of the attachments must be submitted through the application form by 31 May. The operating grants are decided in April and paid out in November at the latest.

Please also note that your application must include written justifications for how your organisation fulfils the criteria set out in the allocation model for operating grants. If these justifications are not sufficient, your organisation will not be awarded points for the criterion in question.

We recommend setting aside enough time for filling in your application, as late applications will not be considered!

2. Apply for the right to use organisational premises!

HYY will continue to provide organisations with the opportunity to organise activities in diverse, high-quality organisational premises in downtown Helsinki. A new allocation of organisational premises will take effect on 1 July 2026, and your organisation can participate in it by filling in an application for organisational premises. Your organisation will be sent an invitation to fill in the application for premises to the email address you submitted through the contact details form for organisations. Filling in the contact details form is a prerequisite for applying for organisational premises. If you have not filled out the contact form or received an invitation to the application form, please contact us by email at janne.saranpaa@hyy.fi. Applications for premises can be submitted 1–28 February 2026. Please set aside enough time for filling in the application, as late applications will not be considered.

Further information on HYY’s reform of organisational premises is available on HYY’s website or by contacting the specialist in organisations: janne.saranpaa@hyy.fi.

3. Contemporary documentation at the New Student House

During the spring, contemporary activities will be documented at the New Student House by photographing and videotaping the activities of interested organisations. We will contact the organisations operating at the New Student House at the end of the month. Our aim is to document activities as comprehensively as possible from different floors, different types of activities, and different organisations. The Helsinki City Museum has supported us in arranging contemporary documentation. The photographers from Ylioppilaskamerat are responsible for photography.

In addition, contemporary documentation will be carried out through interviews and possibly observation diaries and other verbal means. The interviews are part of the University of Helsinki’s course Local Museums as Spaces of Memory and History: an introduction to interdisciplinary methods. All collected material will be added to the HYY archive.

Organisational premises are also 3D modeled. The plan also includes collecting oral history, the timing and organisation of which will be finalised in March. The collection will be organised comprehensively.

If you have any questions regarding the contemporary documentation and oral history project, please contact archivist Ahto Harmo (arkisto@hyy.fi). You can let Ahto know if your organisation would like to have a specific activity documented or if there are enthusiastic interviewees within your organisation.

Does your organisation have gorgeous overall badges but no opportunities to sell them? We have a solution for you! HYY is launching an overall badge brokerage service, allowing organisations operating under it to have their badges sold at HYY’s Services Office. HYY will take a 10% commission on sold badges to cover the costs caused by the brokerage. Sales revenue will be paid to the organisations twice a year.
