Apply for the position of an editor-in-chief for Kimppu magazine of HYY’s Committee for Development Cooperation!

 

HYY’s Committee for Development Cooperation publishes the online magazine Kimppu. Kimppu is a development journalistic publication, which addresses a variety of global issues and solutions. New articles are published throughout the year and the best pieces of the online magazine are published in a printed summary in the Spring term. Kimppu is now looking for 1 – 2 new editors-in-chief for the year of 2020!

The editor-in-chief’s responsibilities include:

  • Chief editing of the magazine: planning the themes, writing, planning the visual image, editing and publishing, coordinating the writers and editors
  • Editing the printed magazine, finding a layout designer and a printing house (together with the editors)
  • Informing the Committee for Development Cooperation about Kimppu’s news which obliges the chief editor to attend the committee meetings; keeping up to date with the Committee’s events and projects
  • Possibly organizing a publication event of a printed magazine in cooperation with the Committee for Development Cooperation
  • Marketing and promoting the visibility of the online magazine

The chief editor is expected to have experience in magazine editing, interest in development cooperation issues and long-term commitment to the position from the beginning to the end. The position is volunteer-based. The editor-in-chief of the past year, Aura Alarto, will assist the new editors-in-chief in the beginning and will also answer to any questions:

We are searching for  editorial assistants for Kimppu magazine of HYY’s Committee for Development Cooperation! The editorial assistants assist the editor in chief with the magazine, support the writers through the writing process and edit the articles. They also assist in choosing artwork and viewpoints for the articles.

Editorial assistants are expected to have an interest in working with global themes, learning new skills, and to have a sharp ear for language.  As an editorial assistant, you learn a lot about editing texts and about writing in general.
