We are looking for a Swedish translator to join our ranks on a part-time fixed-term contract starting on 17 November

NEWS

Are you studying to become a translator and would like to get work in the field alongside your studies? Do you work as a freelance translator but would like a bit more predictability in your everyday life? Are you interested in a diverse and flexible translator’s position with good fringe benefits? If you recognised yourself from some of the questions above, you may well be the new Swedish translator we are looking for!

The texts are translated mainly from Finnish into Swedish and include communication and current affairs material, various guides, brochures, invitations, programmes and other print products as well as regulations and other documents.

This is a part-time position with 20 hours/week, and it is thus perfectly suited for students or freelance translators, for instance. We offer a salary that is in accordance with the student unions’ collective agreement* (salary group II) as well as both lunch and sports benefits. The translator’s position is not tied to a specific location, which means that working entirely remotely, for instance, is possible. The contract has a fixed term that ends on 5 October 2022. This is because the translator is hired as a substitute for the duration of a parental leave.

We are:

  • A student union with around 26,000 members
  • An efficient, active and passionate actor in advocacy work
  • An enthusiastic work community, consisting of 15 employees and 12 members of the Board among others, that gets things done together in a competent yet relaxed fashion

We expect you to have:

  • Experience of translation work or studies in the field
  • Some understanding of various translation tools
  • An independent approach to work
  • Experience of managing your own work

We would also prefer you to have:

  • Experience of student activities

You will get:

  • An interesting, independent and challenging job
  • A salary that is in accordance with the student unions’ collective agreement* (tähän hyperlinkki TES:een), with potential bonuses for education and experience. We also provide both lunch and sports benefits.
  • Opportunities for education and development

Send your free-form application letter with a maximum length of one page to hallinto@hyy.fi with ‘Kääntäjä’ as the subject. The applications will be acknowledged as received. We will have those invited for interviews do a small translation test. Please act quickly, as we will begin processing applications immediately and make our decision as soon as we find the right person. We hope that you could begin on 17 November or as agreed.
