Students’ Independence Day Torchlight Procession 2026

Come and celebrate Finland’s Independence Day in the traditional torchlight procession and public celebration of the students of the Capital Region!

The festivities will begin with the laying of wreaths at Hietaniemi Cemetery Hero’s Cross at 3:30 pm, and the procession will start from the chapel of Hietaniemi Cemetery at approx. 4:30 pm. The event will end at approximately 5:55pm.

The procession is filled with festive atmosphere and light in the spirit of the forward-looking student movement. Put on your student’s cap or teekkari cap and weather-appropriate outerwear. We recommend that flagbearers and heralds wear dark clothing, but the dress code for everyone else is ‘come as you are’!
