We are looking for student representatives for tvex samarbetsgruppen!

NEWS

The University of Helsinki is the only University in Finland to offer bilingual degrees, known as tvex degrees, from the Swedish ‘tvåspråkig examen’. Tvex degrees include study units in both Finnish and Swedish. The University has eight tvex degree programmes operating on the campuses of Viikki, Kumpula and City Centre. All parties involved with the bilingual degrees are represented on Tvex-samarbetsgruppen, the cooperation group for bilingual degrees, which operates in network form.

All parties involved with the bilingual degrees are represented on Tvex-samarbetsgruppen, the cooperation group for bilingual degrees, which operates in network form. The aim of the group is to support cooperation over faculty boundaries as well as share good practices. The Rector of the University decides on the purpose, composition and term of office of the cooperation group.

The Student Union has been requested to nominate three student representatives who study in tvex degree programmes for the cooperation group. We are looking for student representatives from all three campuses: one from Viikki, one from Kumpula and one from the City Centre campus. The student representatives’ term will be 1 January 2024–31 December 2026. More detailed requirements on study background can be found below.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU?

You must be a student registered for attendance at the University of Helsinki. The students are also expected to have the following study backgrounds:

  • The student representative from the Viikki campus currently studies in a tvex bachelor’s programme or is a master’s student who has graduated from a tvex bachelor’s programme in one of the following subjects: biology, agricultural sciences (study track in agricultural economics), environmental and food economics (study track in agricultural, environmental and resource economics), environmental sciences or molecular sciences)
  • The student representative from the Kumpula campus currently studies in a tvex bachelor’s programme or is a master’s student who has graduated from a tvex bachelor’s programme in one of the following subjects: chemistry or physical sciences
  • The student representative from the City Centre campus is currently completing tvex studies in the bachelor’s programme in law or is a master’s student who has completed a bachelor’s degree in law as tvex studies in either the Vaasa or Helsinki unit

The applicants must be students registered for attendance. We also hope that the student members would have connections to the student community as well as be bold and have initiative in their work on the cooperation group. Previous experience of student advocacy work is not required, but it is considered as an advantage.

The working language of the cooperation group is Swedish, and it meets around four times a year. You can also always ask student organisations and the Student Union, for instance, for their views and thoughts.

HOW DO I APPLY TO BECOME A STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE?

If you are a master’s student and have already graduated from a tvex bachelor’s programme, please also state the name of the programme in question. 3) Contacts with student organisations

4) Previous experience of acting as a student representative in administration, as a study advisor or in some other position related to student advocacy work
