3 Apply for furniture purchasing grant!

HYY supports furniture purchases for interior decoration in organisational premises. The grant is intended for organisations which primarily operate on HYY’s premises and the grant is mainly directed to the purchasing of tables, chairs, cupboards with locks and other interior items. The aim is that the furniture would increase the cosiness of the organisational premises and the willingness of organisations to look after their premises even better.

When allocating the furniture grant, we pay attention to the following: the ecological aspect, sustainability and necessity of the purchase. The furniture grant is not supposed to cover the entire purchase price but organisations are also expected to participate in the financing of the purchase.

The grant can be applied all year round. You can apply for the grant with an informal application, which should include the following information:
– applying organisation/organisations
– applied furniture
– budget
– reasons for the purchase

Applications can be submitted by e-mail to jarjesto(at)hyy.fi or by mail to the Student Union of the University of Helsinki, PL 1099, 00101 HELSINKI. Organisations that receive the grant must provide copies of the receipts to the same address no later than within four months after the allocation of the grant.

4 The Ministry of Justice is requesting comments on the report of the working group on communal civic activity in the 2020s

Civic activity is undergoing changes, and this must be taken into account in legislation and the operations of authorities better than it currently is. In March 2019, the Ministry of Justice established a working group to prepare a proposal for changes in the Associations Act and other regulations concerning civic activity in order to facilitate communal civic activity.

The working group has investigated the needs of associations and other civil society actors comprehensively. Its goal has been to increase their scope of action in a controlled manner, in a way that associations and other actors could make the decision on adopting the new possibilities for themselves.

The main changes to the Associations Act proposed by the working group include allowing the existence of a CEO as an administrative body based on provisions in the association’s rules, making it easier to merge two or more associations, making remote participation in meetings of the association easier, permitting online meetings and permitting member and federation votes in the selection of the board. The working group is further proposing that the demand for the equal treatment of associations’ members, the right of members to pose questions in meetings of the association and the disqualification of members of the board are clarified in legislation.

The working group is also suggesting that the needs of civic activity with lighter organisation than that of traditional association activities are taken into account with an act concerning a new legal person, the action group. The working group is also proposing that the smallest associations and action groups would be exempt from the requirements on financial monitoring and reporting set out in the Accounting Act and that they would be permitted to use lighter accounting practices that fulfil the information needs of their members and interest groups instead.

You can make statements on the proposal as individuals or organisations until 14 April 2021 at https://www.lausuntopalvelu.fi/FI/Proposal/Participation?proposalId=1b6edf0d-d70d-4957-b96a-1efa6db17ba4. The statements must be made in Finnish or Swedish.
