3 Front doors to organisational premises must be kept strictly closed

This year, we have been informed of several cases in which the front door to the

New Student House, Domus Gaudium or Mechelininkatu 3 D has been wedged open

with no access control. This is strictly forbidden in HYY’s User Guideline for

Organisational Premises. Keeping the front doors locked and proper access control in

place is a safety issue. If the doors continue to be wedged open without any access

control, the organisation responsible for this may face sanctions including restrictions

to their right to use organisational premises. To prevent this, do not wedge the

doors open, and especially do not leave an open door without any access control.

Ticket sales for the Anniversary close at 11.59 pm on 13 November – act fast if you want to claim your place at the most dazzling anniversary of the year! https://www.lyyti.in/HYYn_154_vuosijuhla

A dazzling Anniversary needs a dazzling afterparty! The afterparty is open to everyone and will include amazing music and festive mood from eleven pm to four am. After midnight, the stage will be taken over by Isaac Sene, who rose to fame through UMK and is known for his hit song ‘Kuuma jäbä’. Before and after the show, music will be provided by DJs from the Dose collective, which has been responsible for the hottest parties in Helsinki’s nightlife in recent years. The legendary karaoke room will also be providing entertainment throughout the party on the second floor of the Old Student House.

5 How do we support the well-being of students and teachers in the midst of changes in university education?

(event in Finnish)

During the coronavirus pandemic, concerns have been raised in the university community for the well-being of students, teaching and research staff and other staff. And concrete steps have been taken to support well-being in the community.

How will we support the well-being of the university community in the future? What types of factors affect an individual’s well-being? How is the well-being of staff developed? What about the students? How can the development of teaching and guidance affect the well-being of teachers and students? What is pedagogical well-being? What actions have been taken at the University of Helsinki in recent years to support well-being?

Hear experts’ views on the subject and participate in the debate on Tuesday 13th December from 9:15 to 10:30 p.m at Oppimistori, Viikki Campus, Info Centre (Viikinkaari 11).

The event can be monitored as a stream and will be recorded. The language of the event is Finnish. Participants can ask questions from the panelists in Swedish and English.

Panelists are:

  • Henna Asikainen, Pedagogical University Lecturer, Viikki Campus, The Centre for University Teaching and Learning (HYPE)
  • Nea Hakala, Board Member responsible for education policy, Student Union of the University of Helsinki (HYY)
  • Kimmo Mäki, Principal Lecturer (Higher education pedagogy), Haaga-Helia, expert in the joint Pedagogical Wellbeing project of ten universities and universities of applied sciences.
  • Anna Parpala, Pedagogical University Lecturer, The Centre for University Teaching and Learning (HYPE)
  • Opri Salminen, Development Manager, Human Resources, Personnel Development and Well-being at Work

Susanna Niinistö-Sivuranta, Director Of Development of the Teaching and Learning Services, will be the facilitator of the event.

Jokke Häsä, President of the Teachers´ Academy, and Mari Räsänen, Project Manager for the Development of Guidance and Student Wellbeing Project will also speak in the event.

The event is part of the celebration of teaching at the University of Helsinki during the academic year 2022-23.

Sign up by 8 December. There is a coffee service at the event.
