Campus farming was piloted last year and will continue to be even more incredible this year! HYY Board has decided to establish a committee to organise campus farming to the City Centre Campus and start a new pilot project on Viikki Campus. The duties of the committee include the organisation and management of farming, such as making the budget, acquiring materials, coordinating the recruitment of farmers, distributing planter boxes and sacks, acquiring sponsors, creating ideas for events and lectures around campus farming – only the sky is the limit! At the first meeting, the chairperson and vice chairperson are elected to the committee. Last year, HYY piloted campus farming in cooperation with the University and Think Corner in the courtyard of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Topelia with 30 sacks, in which a variety of useful plants were grown successfully. This year, we aim to get more sacks to Topelia and also extend campus farming to Viikki to the vicinity of Biokeskus 3 with 30 larger and 30 smaller boxes.
The Campus Farming Committee will meet for the first time at 5pm on Thursday, 6 Mar 2014, in the meeting room Sparre (Mannerheimintie 5 a, 2nd floor, unfortunately not accessible for wheelchair users). The event is opened by Vice Chairperson of Dodo Board Maria Nordlund who will present planter box farming in more detail and tell you how to get started. Everyone interested in planter box farming is welcome to the presentation.
Sign up for the committee through the electronic form below by Tuesday, 4 March.
