Student printing to become a paid service

All student printing will be subject to a charge starting from 1 January 2016. The change is due to the significant reduction in the funding of the University of Helsinki and the resulting need for cost-saving measures.
In conjunction with the change, Unigrafia, which is responsible for the university’s printing services and devices, will reduce the price of black-and-white printing to 6.4 cents per page. The price for colour printing will decrease to 22.4 cents per page. The prices apply to all printers and multi-function printers that are in shared use. The prices include VAT 24%.

The university is about to enforce a principle of using digital material instead of print-outs in studies. This will significantly reduce students’ printing needs. From now on, students cannot be made to hand in printed coursework or theses.

The balance used for paying can be bought from the Unigrafia print shop at and the Unigrafia express printing desk on the central campus (Vuorikatu 3).
As a result of this change, students will have access to hundreds of printers and multi-function printers with the same pre-paid balance and pricing.
