HYY’s Board has selected Ruut Luukkonen as HYY’s new communications specialist. Luukkonen, who has previously worked as a freelance journalist and copywriter, started in the position at the beginning of October.
As communications specialist, Luukkonen is in charge of planning and developing HYY’s communications as well as of public relations tasks and brand management. Tasks of the communications specialist further include supporting HYY’s advocacy work and internal consulting.
Luukkonen has diverse experience with social media, marketing communications and campaigning, for instance. She has previously worked in the roles of a journalist, publicist, content producer and producer in various projects and organisations.
Recently, Luukkonen has worked as a producer in both domestic and international campaigns, such as the EU-wide Give it up 4 Ramadan as well as studied how young Finnish Muslims experience the treatment of violent radicalisation in the media, published as her thesis.
''My first weeks at HYY have gone by really fast, and I have got to work with issues such as details related to HYY’s image and the Student Union’s marketing. Promoting the Student Union’s visibility as an influencer in society and an operator that looks like students is important to me from a communicative perspective'', Luukkonen states.
Luukkonen, 26, graduated as a journalist from the Degree Programme in Journalism at the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, and has also studied development studies.
