Katri Korolainen-Virkajärvi appointed as the Secratry General of the Student Union of the University of Helsinki

The Representative Council of the Student Union of the University of Helsinki (HYY) has appointed Katri Korolainen-Virkajärvi (27) as the Secretary General of the Student Union. She will begin her three-year term on June 4th.

Katri Korolainen-Virkajärvi studies at the University of Helsinki majoring in Finnish and Nordic history. She will be graduating in June. In 2011 Korolainen-Virkajärvi was the Chair of the Board of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) and in 2010 the Chair of the Board of HYY.

The duties of General Secretary include among others being responsible for the activities and operative finances of HYY, as well as being the supervisor of the approximately 20 staff members of the student union. The secretary general will also develop HYY organisation, and manage both general interest representation and relations to stakeholders.

The Student Union of the University of Helsinki was founded in 1868 and it is the oldest and largest student union in Finland. It consists of approximately 30,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students Of the University of Helsinki.
