The Representative Council of the Student Union of the University of Helsinki (HYY) has appointed BSc Jannica Aalto (27) as the new Secretary General of the Student Union. She will begin her three-year term 25 May with an induction period.
Jannica Aalto studies at the University of Helsinki majoring in human geography. Aalto is widely experienced in university management has worked in various positions within the student movement and in HYY. In 2012 Aalto was the Chair of the Board of HYY and in 2011 a Member of the Board of HYY and since 2014 she has been a Member of the Board of the University of Helsinki.
The Secretary General is the operative manager of HYY: she is responsible for the activities and finances of the student union and works as the supervisor of HYY’s staff of approximately 20 persons. The Secretary General also runs organizational development in HYY and manages both general interest representation and relations to stakeholders.
The Student Union of the University of Helsinki was founded in 1868 and it is the oldest and largest student union in Finland. It has approximately 27 000 undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University of Helsinki as members.
