HYY's Iiris Niinikoski appointed to SYL Executive Board for the year of 2015


The candidate of the Student Union of the University of Helsinki (HYY), Bachelor of Educational Sciences Iiris Niinikoski has been elected to the Executive Board of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) for the year of 2015. 24-year-old Iiris Niinikoski studies to become a class teacher majoring in educational sciences. This year, Niinikoski has acted as the vice chairperson of HYY Board being in charge of the coordination of advocacy work and the parliamentary election advocacy.  
A total of eight candidates ran for the board of SYL. Two candidates applied for the position of the chairperson. In addition to Niinikoski, the following were appointed to the Board: Jari Järvenpää (TamY) as the chairperson, Janne Hälinen (LYY), Lauri Lehtoruusu (AYY), Paula Martikainen (ISYY), Jussi Nieminen (TYY) and Silja Silvasti (JYY).
The General Assembly of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) will be held at Korpilampi, Espoo, from Friday to Saturday on 21–22 November. SYL is the common representative of approximately 135,000 students in Finnish universities.The General Assembly elects the new President and members of the Executive Board, and outlines the union’s objectives and operations for the forthcoming year. The General Assembly is the highest decision-making body of SYL, which convenes once a year. SYL supervises the university student's interests at the national level and comments on educational, social, international and working life affairs.
