HYY is looking for a coordinator for a development cooperation week

02.05.2019

We are looking for a coordinator to organise our Student Union’s development cooperation week with a climate change theme in October–November 2019.

SYL, HYY, ISYY, JYY, LYY, OYY and TYY have received EU funding through the ‘Frame. Voice. Report!’ project to realise a project with a climate change theme. Would you like to do something concrete to combat climate change? Become a local coordinator for our project and you will get to influence other students so that serious efforts to take climate action will be made.

As the coordinator, you will be in charge of organising the development cooperation week in the Student Union of the University of Helsinki (including events, facility reservations, performers, etc.). You will put together a group of volunteers and plan the programme of the development cooperation week with them. You will also be supported by HYY’s Development Cooperation Committee. Activities have already been tentatively planned during the application stage, and you will get more ideas from the other local coordinators. The coordinators will participate in the local coordinators’ meetings where you will be given guidance for realising the project. You will also manage the volunteers’ activities and actively communicate about the events through the Student Union’s communication channels, for instance.

Besides realising the week, a crucial part of your duties will be reporting on the realisation of the development cooperation week (media monitoring, event monitoring, descriptive report, finance report) according to a pre-set schedule. You will be given instructions on the reporting and your other duties as a coordinator in the coordinators’ meetings. The position is a great opportunity to accumulate work experience in event organisation and global education.

We require the applicant to:
•    be interested in sustainable development and climate change
•    have good project management skills
•    participate in the coordinators’ meetings (1 x 2 days and 3 x 1 day, meetings organised in Helsinki)

The following are considered as advantages:
•    Experience with project work
•    Experience in communications

After the final report has been submitted, the coordinator will be paid a remuneration of €940 for organising the week and making the report.
Applications and CVs should be sent to kukka.louhimies(at)hyy.fi with ‘Application – development cooperation week coordinator’ as the subject by noon on Monday 6 May 2019.
