The Board of the University of Helsinki is the University's supreme decision-making body. The Board decides on the University's strategy, operative and financial planning, budget, regulations, operational structure, the number of students accepted to the university, is responsible for the university's asset management and use, organises accounting and asset management monitoring, approves a performance agreement with the Ministry of Education, and other agreements that are significant for the university, and issues statements on major university-related matters of principle. In accordance with the Universities Act, the University Board must carefully operate to promote interests of the University.
Two student members are elected for the Board of the University of Helsinki and the decision is made by the Student Union of the University of Helsinki. The term of office of the student members in administration is two years between 1 Jan 2016-31 Dec 2017. Eligible for the Board is a person who is entitled to undertake at the University of Helsinki the Bachelor's or the Master's degree, licentiate or doctoral degree, the degree of specialist, specialist in dentistry or specialist in veterinary medicine, or the degree of special education or special kindergarten teacher degree and who registers for attendance before 15 Sept 2015.
In accordance with the University's election regulation, staff members may not apply for the position of a student representative in university administration. Eligibility is determined in more detail in Section 9 of the University's election regulation and Section 4 of the regulation which regulates the selection method of student representatives for university administration.
We appreciate a wide-ranging view on the development of university and higher education policy as well as knowledge of university administration and finances. Experience from university administration will be viewed as an advantage. We also appreciate good interaction skills, the ability to reason and perceive broad contexts. Applicants should be motivated and committed to work in the Board.
Applications with CVs addressed to the Student Union's Representative Council must be submitted to the Student Union's Central Office (Mannerheimintie 5 A, 2nd floor., 00100 HELSINKI) or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than 12noon on 31 Mar 2015. The selection committee will interview some of the applicants during week 17. The Student Union's Representative Council elects two student members for university administration at its meeting on 11 May 2015.
